FATHER - NEARER THAN A CALL AWAY

Father!

He’d come running late in the night, at his daughter’s call

Grab her ailing body, put her ‘long’ form on his back and run from one hospital to another

At that point, he’d forget every other bother he had and focus on the life before him

Or should I say Daada, as this father was fondly called

I’d say a father indeed is worthy of more accolades than he regularly receives.

I’ll lend credence to the fact that a father is nearer than a call away

Runs to his son and his daughter especially, at the sound of Da…

I’d tell you about a father I knew

I’d say he was the best I’d come across, even though lots of great fathers exist

A real one, open and sincere in his dealings with his wife, children and people he’d come across

One who loved God and would regard other men

One who wouldn’t tell anyone how he always came first and therefore intimidate them

Rather, this one would encourage others and give them reasons to strive to give it their best shot

This Daada would sacrifice his pleasures for his children’s sakes

You’d always hear him say “My children are my investments”

One who would listen attentively and point out when an authority has judged wrong

He’d hurt so much that the authority trampled on and talked down on people’s opinions

He’d cry with his children, when he could feel their pain (and who just said strong men don’t cry?)

This one shared in their joys and pains alike

Full of love, life and care

A provider and protector too

A very close friend to his daughters and a role model to his sons

"Be kind to people you come across and don't be proud

All is vanity, so don't think you are better than anyone or have a haughty spirit

Love your neighbours as you love yourself" he'd say

He’d visit as often as he could when his children weren’t home, to the envy of people around

They’d whisper “when we discuss our fathers, please don’t bring that guy into the picture”

“He’s different, a friend and not a father”

Oh! Did I mention he was so handsome;I mean tall, dark and handsome

You’d hear a lot of young girls say “this father is so good looking”

Which would always illicit a response to stay away from this father

Let’s not forget the false accusations he’d have to deal with, as a result of his good looks

Truth is, he’d also come under so much criticism over his methods

These critics wouldn’t deter him because he knew his methods were right

He’d do whatever it takes, as long as it’s right/expedient

His values so valid and embodied in his personality

Did I mention his smiles? Genuine and full of sincerity

Eternal words of wisdom would emanate from his mouth, as gotten from the Bible and his experiences as an individual

Words would fail me but I’m blessed I met this father

To him and the tons of great fathers out there, I’d wish a Happy Father’s Day

Thanks for always being nearer than a call away
